Camps, Excursions & Incursions

At Harvest Home Primary School camps, excursions and incursions are purposely planned to enrich and enhance the school experience for all students.  We provide a wide variety of experiences and opportunities for students to improve learning, engagement, and wellbeing outcomes.

These extra curricula events provide a valuable experience for our students which are complementary to their learning, as they provide access to resources, environments and expertise that may not necessarily be available in the school or local area.

Excursions

Excursions are activities organised by the school where the students:

  • are taken out of the school grounds (for example, a field trip, day excursion, school sports);
  • undertake *Adventure Activities, regardless of whether or not they occur outside the school grounds.

Local Excursions

are excursions to locations within walking distance of the school and do not involve ‘Adventure Activities’. As part of our school enrolment process, families can complete the Local Excursion Permission Form, which allows students to attend supervised excursions that take place within walking distance of the school.

*Adventure Activities are activities that involve a greater than normal risk.

Camps

Camps are extended excursions that involve overnight stays / accommodation. Harvest Home Primary School has camps at both Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6.  As we have a partnership with the YMCA, we have exclusive access to many of the YMCA camp sites and activities.

More information about YMCA camps and locations can be viewed at: https://camps.ymca.org.au/

Incursion

An incursion is an activity that involves school visitors who provide a performance, lesson, or a service for students.

All information about camps, excursions and incursions communicated via the Compass portal. Consent forms and payments are also managed through Compass.  In addition to consent and  payment, for camps families will need to complete a detailed student medical form.

Further information and examples  of adventure activities are available on the Department’s website under Adventure Activities, at the following link: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/spag/safety/pages/adventure.aspx

For all camps and excursions, including adventure activities, Harvest Home Primary School follows the Department’s School Policy and Advisory Guide at Excursions and Activities.

We greatly value the contribution made by all staff and parent helpers in providing supervision and support for  these important school events to take place.
