At 9:00 AM, the clock strikes as we finally arrive at our destination: the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for the GRIP conference. GRIP stands for Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, and People, and it is a program designed to inspire leaders to reach their fullest potential. After an hour-long drive on a packed bus, we from Harvest Home Primary enter the Exhibition Centre and are greeted by thousands of students.
We patiently wait to walk through the big cinema-style doors, where many schools are seated in front of a massive stage. After being assigned our seats and receiving our booklets, we dive into Session 1, where we learn about the qualities and significant responsibilities of leadership. Before we know it, Session 2 begins, focusing on leadership through friendship and highlighting that conversation and fun are more effective than simply giving instructions.
Session 2 is a blast, especially when the instructors introduce the LOUD NOISE BOYS! After the excitement of that session, we move on to Session 3, where we explore the importance of inclusion and collaboration—learning that everyone deserves a voice.
By the end of this engaging event, we recognise that being a leader comes with great responsibility, but it's also an incredible opportunity. After the thrilling and tiring day, we finally got back on the bus with a new legacy to behold.
